Radial Arm Saw Safety

1.   Do not cross your arms.  Keep your hands and fingers out of the blade’s path.  You could cut off an arm or finger.

2.   Guards should be in the proper position and locked in place.  They are designed to protect the operator.

3.   All adjustments must be done before starting the machine.  This will prevent your work from being thrown and the saw from jumping into your hands.

4.   All adjustments should be locked into place before turning on the machine.  This will prevent anything from slipping and injuring you.

5.   Do not talk to the operator while they are using the saw.  If the operator is distracted they could seriously injure themselves.

6.   The saw should not cut deeply into the table.  A saw cutting too deep could injure the operator.

7.   Allow the saw to come to full power before making cuts.  A slow moving blade can jam or break.

8.   In all continuous crosscutting, be sure to return the saw to the original starting position.  This will allow you to remove your work without getting your hands close to the blade.

9.   Always wear eye protection when using the radial arm saw.  Material can be easily thrown into the eyes.

10.   Be sure the saw is back to its starting position after using it.  This will prevent the next operator from being drawn into the machine.

11.   Do not use a stick or other material to stop the blade from spinning.  This causes friction, and the heat from this can warp the blade.

12.   Do not stand directly in front of the blade when starting.  Splinters can be thrown from the saw and injure you.

13.   Do not cut round stock on the radial arm saw.  The stock can roll and draw your hands into the blade.

14.   Small pieces of scrap should be removed only when the saw is at a complete stop.
