I read Ida B. and her plans to maximize fun, avoid disaster, and (possibly) save the world. It was a great book about a girl who seems to me like Junie B. Jones. She is very funny. She talks to the trees and the creek that runs through her property. She doesn’t like public school because they won’t call her Ida B. They call her Ida which is her mom’s name. Her parents home school her from kindergarten to fourth grade. But when her mom gets cancer, she has to go back to that public school. She is determined not to like school, her teacher, or any of the kids who go there. She spends many weeks planning how to make sure she doesn’t enjoy herself and ends up making friends, liking her teacher and making up with the trees.

Like I said before, I really like the Time Quintet, by Maeleine L’Engle. I have started on the fourth book. This blog is about the first. It’s called A Wrinkle in Time. It features teenager Meg, her 4-year-old brother Charles Wallace (sometimes called Charles for short), & their new friend Calvin, who’s just a little older than Meg. They meet the three Mrs. W’s: Whatsit, Who, & Which. They, who seem not very human, teach Meg, Charles & Calvin how to “tesser”, or “wrinkle”. They use that to save Meg’s father, who Charles doesn’t even know. They travel through time & space, meeting new & strange people. They earn new powers, & it’s a very fun adventure! I recommend you read it, it’s a very good book!

My favorite part of PLAY BALL, Amelia Bedilia is when she thinks that Dick is going to take second base so she picks up
seconed base and runs off with it. I thougt it was funny when she hit a homerun and the boys run home so she ran all the way home.

I loved the book “The Rising Star of Rusty Nail”. The book was set in Minnesota in the early 1950’s. When Franny’s old piano teacher decides that she has nothing left to teach her, Franny is desperate to find someone to help her. She wants to be a great piano player. When a Russian woman moves into town and Franny finds out that she is a famous pianist, Franny finds a way to get lessons from her. The rest of the women in town are sure that Madame Malenkov is a Russian spy and they do everything that they can to make her leave. She stays long enough for Franny to take lessons and go to a big competition in Minneapolis. To find out how the competition went you’ll have to read the book.

My most recent book was Eggs by Jerry Spinelli. In the book a boy named David meets an older girl named Primrose. Actually he finds her lying in the grass and leaves acting like she was dead. He really got upset. They become friends and sometimes enemies. David’s mother died the year before and Primrose’s mother is a strange lady so they are both unhappy. David thinks that if he follows all the rules his mother will come back. When they run away, they find out that the people in their lives really do love them. It’s a great book!

When Benjamin Blake gets taken from school by Ms. Mauvais and Dr. L, Cass decides she must follow them to the Midnight Sun Sensorium and Spa. Max-Ernest soon follows and they end up caught. How will they save Benjamin and themselves? It’s a good book. Read it and find out.
