Good Day. My name is Mr. Bahre and I will be the teacher for US History for your current school year. This is my fifth year here at Kingman Middle School. I am retired military with the US Air Force after 23. I attended the University of Wyoming where I graduated with a degree in History and also a degree in Sec Education Social Studies. My expectations are very simple do what you are asked and turn in assignments when you are asked and you will do just fine. I will only allow extra credit work if you are current on all your other assignments. Your extra credit is limited to sections reviews within the text book for the current chapters that we are working on for any particular unit.
In eight grade we will start our focus on Colonial America and work our way to the causes of the American Revolution and then into the Revolution itself. We will be reading several of the original documents that were from this period as well as looking critically at events like the Boston Massacre(taken from the article printed in the Boston Gazette from March of 1775) and Battle of Lexington(from the letter to the Continental Congress and from the Commander of the British Troops to the King of England) to see how there are many accounts to these seemingly simple events and why history has taken the outlook it has when it comes to these events.
Second Term will cover the US and Arizona Constitution along with local governments. I try to get several speakers in from the State and local as well as national government that can talk directly to how the government works. This allows the students to have a better perspective of real world government. We have had Congressmen, members of the Arizona State Legislature, Kingman City Mayor and City Council members.
Third Term we jump right to the Great depression covering its causes and the effects that this event had and how World War II came about. We will discuss the rise of the various war leaders on both the Axis Powers and the Allied Leaders. We will then jump into the war itself and the various outcomes and events that shaped the war and decisions made.
Fourth Term with be what is often termed as Modern America. This would be post War America and all the wars and police actions that took place following the war. We will cover the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, The 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and with a lot of luck finish up with the 80’s.
Welcome to US History
